A note from our Children’s Ministry Coordinator, Barbara Galbraith….

I truly believe that one of the greatest gifts we can give to our children is the knowledge of a God who loves them more than they will ever understand - one who created them just as they are, for a very special reason and purpose, and one who loves, welcomes, and accepts all.  Here at First Baptist Church, we strive to do just that.  In everything we do, every ministry we provide, and every interaction we have with a child, it is our hope and desire that, above all, the love and grace of Jesus Christ will shine through.

I also believe that God takes our ministries to children very seriously.  Matthew 18 tells of Jesus gathering with the disciples, when they, the disciples, begin to ask which one of them would be the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.  Isn’t that just like us human beings – always wondering which one of us is going to be first, is going to be best, is going to be the greatest?  I believe Christ’s answer probably took them by surprise:  “Jesus called a small child over to Him and set the little fellow down among them, and said, ‘Unless you turn to God from your sins and become as little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.  Therefore, anyone who humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.  And any of you who welcomes a little child like this because you are mine, is welcoming me and caring for me.’”  And, just in case that analogy was not enough, Jesus adds this:  “But if any of you causes one of these little ones who trusts me to lose his faith, it would be better for you to have a rock tied to your neck and be thrown into the sea.”   (both passages Living Bible translation) Wow!  Yes, I believe God considers our interactions with, and our teaching of His children to be very, very important. It is a charge we take seriously, and one to which we devote our time, energy, passion, and love.

I invite you to come and experience the Children’s Ministry at First Baptist Church!  You are welcome.  Your child is welcome.  All are welcome at Christ’s table…
